Collision characteristics of Geldart Group A particles in fluidized bed column are investigated in this work. Numerical simulations based on a three dimensional DEM (Discrete Element Method) model are performed for particulate systems having particle diameters of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mm, respectively. A correlation between the number of collisions with time is proposed. It is found that the number of collisions is proportional to the diameter of particles as well as the time for which the particles are fluidized. Effect of spring constant used in the simulation as well as the number of particles on the collision frequency is also analyzed.
