Study of ISR Heavy Ion RFQ Accelerators at Peking University

The Integral Split Ring (ISR) RFQ with mini-vane electrodes has been developed at Peking University. It is suitable for low frequency operation with good stability and feasible for heavy ion acceleration. As a prototype, a, 26 MHz water cooled ISR RFQ for accelerating N~+ ions up to 300 keV has been designed and constructed. It was tested at full rf power level of 42.5 kW with duty factor of 1/6 . The inter-vane voltage reached to the design value of 75 kV. Experimental studies on the acceleration of N~+, O~+ and O~- ions have been carried out. The design energy was reached. Both positive and negative ions have been also accelerated with this RFQ simultaneously. All the results were analysed. Based on the experiences of the prototype, a 26 MHz RFQ for 1 MeV oxygen ions has been designed and studied.
