Mechanism and effect of air and water back-washing in the cleansing of fixed-beds activated carbon

Experiments on the cleansing of fixed-beds activated carbon were conducted using a small scale experimental plant, to investigate the mechanism and the effect of air and water back-wanshing in cleansing the beds. From the experimental results, the behavior of the discharge rates of suspended solids retained inside the fixed-bed is evaluated, and at the same time, the air and water back-washing is verified to be very effective in detaching any accumulated solids and recovering the adsorbability of the fixed-beds activated carbon.
