In this paper, the treatment of copper sulfate solutions simulating industrial wastewaters was investigated by electrolysis and electrodialysis combined technique. It was taken into account several parameters including the value of voltage, concentration of copper, initial pH and flow rate. The results of electrolysis show clearly that the higher voltage, higher concentration and lower flow rate and initial pH result in a higher and faster removal rate; however the energy consumption is higher.It was found that parameter values with 4.5V, 500mg/L, and 1 L/h respectively managed to 70% removal, and 11kW ·h/kg energy consumption. Electrolysis can handle all the outflows of electrolysis under the parameters of 30V, 6L/h with about 98% copper removal and 0.9~3.0 kW energy consumption. It was observed that the recovered copper granularity formed finely with low current density by Stereo Microscope and nearly 100% purity by XRD. The innovative characters of the proposed combined technique are zero discharge, recovery and recycle which fully meets the severe status of environment worsening and resource scarceness.
