The results of nonlinear finite element analysis of a cast – in- place, three – bay frame withrndeep beams from a single storey, precast, prestressed concrete structure subjected to monotonicallyrnincreasing lateral loads is presented. These include data on the complete lateral load displacementrnresponse until failure, concrete strains and cracking and crushing of the concrete, the steel strains in all ofrnthe reinforcing bars, including their yielding and development of plastic hinges leading to frame failure.rnBased on the behaviour results of the frame, it is retrofitted with a ? in (12.5 mm) thick steel plate aroundrnall four column faces and parts of the deep beam at the junctions with the columns. The completernbehaviour of the retrofitted frame until failure was studied in exactly the same manner as for the “original”rnframe. The results show that the strength and stiffness of the retrofitted frame is considerably increased byrnthe addition of retrofitting steel plates.
