Current RP technologies have limitations on size and mechanical and chemical properties, which limits their use for certain applications. Most of the current research focuses on improving the existing technology with less effort being expended on break-through technology that can produce large scale models with materials that can be used for wind tunnel or hydrodynamic tests. This paper describes the limitations to fabricating large scale models using conventional RP technologies and reviews areas of research that focused on fabrication of large scale models. Also, a brief discussion is presented on the potential of hybrid construction of large scale models versus traditional layered RP models.
