A general method is outlined for the solution of the three-phase elliptical inclusion model in linear piezoelectricity. It is found that the electroelastic stresses in the inclusion, interphase layer and matrix depends on only two complex coefficients. An example is shown illustrating the significance of the interphase layer on the electroelastic stresses induced within the inclusion. It is found that distribution of the electroelastic stresses within the inclusion depends not only on the relative stiffness of the interphase layer but also on the aspect ratio of the elliptical inclusion as well.
