LAPPICE: A software for automatic building of the lattice diagram of traveling waves

The theory of traveling waves (TWs) has gained importance year after year in power transmission grids applications, such as in TW-based protection and fault location algorithms. As a result, methodologies and softwares capable of providing detailed information about TWs induced by faults or switching maneuvers that travel along a given transmission network have attracted the interest of utilities. Therefore, in this paper, a software for automatic building of the Lattice diagram of TWs which propagate along single- and double-circuit lines, with or without adjacent lines is presented, which is called LAPPICE. To do so, a methodology for building the Lattice diagram was developed based on consolidated transient analysis techniques, such as the Clarke's transformation and the Differentiator-Smoother filter. The obtained results reveal that LAPPICE is versatile and easy-to-use, being useful for the analysis of TWs in transmission networks.
