Guidance of Percutaneous Coronary Interventions with NIRS-IVUS for Improvement of Procedural Outcomes and Prediction of Future Risk of Coronary Events

Detection of lipid core plaques during coronary catheterization procedures may lead to secondary prevention, reduction inprocedural complications, and eventually the development of reliable non-invasive methods for primary and secondaryprevention. Prospective studies are in progress to test the hypothesis that combined NIRS-IVUS imaging can detectvulnerable coronary plaques and guide preventive therapy.
