Pot and field plot experiments were conducted to investigate Zn and Cd hyperaccumulation in a new Sedum plant: Sedum plumbizincicola. The results showed that Sedum plumbizincicola could hyperaccumulate zinc and cadmium from heavy metal contaminated soil. When soil Cd, Zn were 15.3 mg·kg <'1> and 6499 mg·kg<'1> respectively, the Cd, Zn contents in Sedum plant stems were 424, and 19357 mg·kg<'1>, and in leaves were 285, 12911 mg·kg<'1>. Sedum plants intercropped with Elsholtzia splendens increased both plant biomass and Cd, Zn concentrations in plant shoots. The Cd and Zn in Sedum were also increased when it was intercropped with Vetiveria zizanioiaes, but its biomass decreased markedly, so that the total metal extraction rates decreased.
