摘要

This study was undertaken to evaluate the impact of short-term exposure to cadmium and the inhibitory effect of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) on cadmium toxicity on some selected physiological and biochemical aspects of the freshwater Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Three fish groups were exposed to 1/10 LC<,50> Cd, 1/10 LC<,50>+500mg/L vitamin C, and 1/10 LC<,50>+1000mg/L vitamin C, respectively. Fish exposed to Cadmium revealed disturbances in blood constituents and bioaccumulation of cadmium in vital organs, and a negative effect on the growth rate, meat quality and blood physiology of Nile tilapia. However, fish exposed to the same concentration of cadmium supplemented with vitamin C showed significant differences in the values of growth rates, meat quality and other physiological and biochemical parameters.
