The characterization of 134 bacteria isolated from root colonizing (Ni, Cu, Zn, CA and Pb) metal polluted soils was performed. Zn tolerance, sorption and accumulation capacities were evaluated. A high percentage (51.6%) of these bacteria was Zn-tolerant (3mM). They presented greater sorption (168±0.6mg (Zn)· g DW) than accumulation capacity (6.6±0.4). It is suggested that these properties and others evaluated in previous research may be important and useful factors to recommend their use in phytoremediation of metal polluted sites.
