Recently, we have started a research program to create detailed and comprehensive model of biological systems. The research program, Virtual Biology Laboratories, consists of a set of research projects targeting specific model animals, such as Caenorhadbitis elegans (C. elegans), Drosophila, in vitro human fibroblast, etc. The goal of our research is to create detailed model of specific model animals, so that various virtual biological experiments (such as gene knock out, microscopic manipulations, site direct mutagenesis) can be performed, and results are compared with actual biological experiments. In this paper, we will specifically describe our efforts to model embryogenesis of C. elegans. C. elegans is one of our main target because it is one of the most well studied model animals. This paper describes basic idea of the approach and some of early results of these projects.
