The slag corrosion mechanism of high chrome refractory bricks for gasifiers with different feed type was studied. The microstructures of after-use high chrome bricks and slag corrosion test bricks for petroleum coke gasifier and coal slurry gasifier were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction. Results showed that the corrosion to high chrome bricks used for petroleum coke gasifier is mainly caused by liquid phase generation at low temperature due to the reaction between Cr_2O_3 in the brick and heavy metal oxides such as V_2O_5 in molten slag; However, the corrosion for high chrome bricks used for coal slurry gasifier is caused by dissolution of Cr_2O_3 in molten slag and corrosion of ZrO_2. The LIRR-HK 95 brick has excellent resistance against the corrosion from petroleum coke slag thanks to its optimized chemical composition and microstructure.
