Ultra fine carbon black particles (0.15mm average) were made a stable aqueous colloid with organic polymer. This new colloidal suspension is found to be an excellent additive for lead-acid batteries in order to extend the cycle life 2 to 3 times. This indicates lead-acid battery will be a practical power source for various EVs. The essential part of the beneficial action of the organic ultra-fine carbon colloid seems due to the organic polymer material which acts for the negative electrode, producing high activity PbSO4, and increasing hydrogen over voltage of the lead electrode (masking Sb~(3+) , Fe~(3+), etc).
