The Aquron 7000~(TM) System, manufactured in the USA by the Aquron Corporation, is a system promoted for application to chloride contaminated concrete in mitigation of reinforcement corrosion. According to the technical data sheet, when applied to the surface of concrete this product "readily penetrates and permeates into concrete following the course of reticulation from pore to pore, affecting the soluble chloride content in three ways: neutralisation, re-positioning and purging of soluble chlorides". This paper presents the results of an independent performance evaluation of the Aquron 7000~(TM) System, conducted over a period exceeding 12 months. The trial treatment area is on an existing marine structure in Newcastle Harbour (NSW), located in an atmospheric marine environment exposed to spray from wave action. Performance tests included acid soluble and water soluble chloride analysis, electrode potential measurement and electrical resistivity testing of concrete. To date, the results obtained suggest that the Aquron 7000~(TM) System has some ability in purging the soluble chloride from depths greater than 25 mm. Although significant reductions in acid soluble chloride contents were recorded at depths greater than 25 mm, on average the post-treatment values remained above the accepted chloride threshold for initiation of corrosion. The test regime used in the investigation, however, did not substantiate the "neutralising" claims of the Aquron 7000~(TM) System which are to be investigated further. The results showed that the Aquron 7000~(TM) System initially significantly increased the electrical resistivity of the concrete. However, the effect on electrical resistivity values was not permanent, apparently decreasing with time. The measured electrode potential values of reinforcement, for up to a year following treatment, suggest that the Aquron 7000~(TM) System has had a beneficial effect on reinforcement corrosion activity.
