A key to the success of mobile applications is the proper use of context. This paper presents a model of contextrnfor mobile and wireless computing environments. The model consists of three categories of context –rnenvironment, participants, and activities – along with any interactions that may exist between and within therncategories. Time is also incorporated into the model, allowing for a context history that can be used forrnpredicting future context. The model can be used as a guide to the development of mobile applications and asrna common reference point for present and future research studies in the area of mobile and ubiquitousrncomputing.
