Avoiding the Sand Traps of ISO 9000

ISO 9001, 9002, & 9003, the contractual standards of the International Organization of Standards are straightforward, clear, and definitive. Each one covers no more than ten pages. One of the many sandtraps a company will get itself into is that to assure compliance and with the feeling that more is better, it will explode its manual, procedures, work instructions, and records into thousands of pages. The purpose of this paper is to tell how to avoid such sandtraps and direct this creative energy into providing cost effcient operations meeting the requirements of the standard.
