An Effective Development Quality Measurement

The Single Best Quality Indicator (SBQI) and Weighted Problem Level Index (WPLI) have proven to be effective tools in helping hardware and software development organizations achieve aggerssive progress in their quality improvement programs. SBQIs typically consist of a three month moving average index, derived from the number of days a customer-affecting problem remains unresolved. Each SBQI is graphically presented in a single chart, to enable management to quickly determine whether attention or intervention is required. All of the groups using SBQIs and WPLIs have achieved both clear measurement of processes; and substantial, sustained quality improvement to their processes. The success of the effectiveness of the use of SBQIs and WPLIs has been the total elimination of customer complaints to management, and the achievement of a development working environment that is considered to be positive, upbeat, empowered, and in-control.
