Air bearing spindles are invaluable in many different high precision applications and are intrinsically reliable. The spindles only ever need repair when either a user has overloaded the spindle or the air supply contaminated the spindle. Spindle repairs are expensive and time consuming. But the existence of a good compressed air system drastically reduces the likelihood that an air bearing spindle will ever require a repair.
