3D in vivo dynamic models of healthy and post VTP left atrium were developed. Numerical results show that the pressure increase, atrial dilatation, and tissue stiffening after VTP procedure induce an increase in the maximum stress value, with highest stress occurring in the area around the pulmonary veins. Abnormal conduction in this region has been linked to early atrial fibrillation. Further analysis is warranted to understand the link between mechanical stresses and AF.
