Several methods for the assessment of corroded pipelines subjected to internal pressure loading are currently available, for example, the ASME B31G method, the RSTRENG 0.85dL method, the DNV RP-F101 method for single defects (Part B) and the RPA method. These methods do not take into account the effect of a longitudinal compressive force on the corroded pipeline failure pressure.rnWhen the corroded pipeline is subjected to a longitudinal compressive force superimposed to the pressure loading its failure pressure may be reduced.rnFor a buried pipeline the most common source of a longitudinal compressive force is a temperature loading.rnA ground movement may also produce a longitudinal compressive force in the pipeline.rnIn this paper a new method, named RPA-PLLC, is developed. This method is a modified version of the RPA method and can take into account the effect of a longitudinal compressive force on the corroded pipeline failure pressure.
