Exploring Collective Tagging as a Mechanism to Elicit Language about Health Management

This paper describes an innovative effort to invite thernpublic to participate in the creation of a public resource – tornleverage collective wisdom in the health domain. Thisrnproject involved building a website where people couldrncontribute their experiences of body listening and how theyrnlearned/were learning to do it. Within the context of thisrnstudy, body listening was described as the act of payingrnattention to the body’s signals and cues, which can improvernindividuals’ long-term health management. Over the coursernof the study, participants and moderators together authoredrn431 posts and contributed 818 tags. This paper presents anrninitial analysis of these tags.rnThis analysis makes several intellectual contributions.rnFirst, we present a preliminary classification scheme forrnconcepts associated with body listening and selfmanagementrnthat might be used in future efforts to organizernknowledge in this domain. Second, we evaluate interannotatorrnagreement using this classification scheme, torncharacterize its potential for use in future work.
