摘要

The synthesis, properties and application of polyurethane associative thickener (PU-AT) are discussed. The rheological property of waterborne latex paints is significantly enhanced by PU-AT. Its behavior is relevant to the molecular structure, especially to the properties of associative groups and the degree of polymerization of poly(oxyethylene) [POE]. Meanwhile the relationships of thickening to associative groups and leveling to the degree of polymerization of POE are pointed out respectively. In addition, we studied the coordinate and interaction of alkali swellable thickener (AST) and PU-AT. The influence caused by the adsorption of PU-AT to all kinds of polymers, surfactants, latex particles and pigment particles on the thickening effect is considered.
