The cooling water project of power plant in Coastal area is influenced by tide and wave etc. Owing to the unsteady features of tidal currents and waves, the characteristics of cooling water and its hydrology condition are very complex, which make the study of physical model test and the arrangement of cooling water project in Coastal area more difficult than in river or reservoir. According to the model test, theoretical and hydrodynamics principle, experimental methods and principles about cooling water in Coastal area have been introduced, and the extended project of Beilun power plant has been taken for an example in this paper, the experimental method and principle of cooling water model test and arrangement regulations of outlet-intake schemes in coastal area have been described in detail. Four kinds of outlet-intake schemes have been tested and compared in different hydrological terms. In final, the best scheme has been given. The temperature rise of cooling water of power plant and its scope areas have been predicted. That will offer scientific basis to power plant extended project and assure the cooling water projects run safely, credibility and economically.
