Alkaline hydrothermal experiments of phenol were conducted to examine the yields of formic acid and acetic acid. These reactions occurred in a batch reactor in the addition quality of NaOH 0, 0.5 M, 1 M, 1.5 M, the temperature range of 260 to 300℃,the reaction time of 30 to 120 s, and the additive ratio of H2O2 0% to 100%. s. The results showed that the yield of formic acid was much more than that of acetic acid. The yields of formic acid and acetic acid were 56.1%, 10.6% respectively at 300℃ for 90 s with 1M NaOH and H2O2 50%. The much higher yields give us a hit that in alkaline hydrothermal conversion of phenol if we could control reaction pathway to selectively form acid, the yields of formic acid and acetic acid from phenol could be enhanced.
