The world in the 2000's will be changed into the times of information-oriented, automatic, convenient environment and public welfare. As the demand for electric energy in Korea is increasing with the change of world, the outlook in capacities of power generation facilities will be increased from 27GW in 1994 to 73GW in 2011. With this KOREA surroungings, we are making steady progress the work for the purpose of 765kV transmission as from 2002. In our company, we are making progress for developing 765kV transformer and 800kV GIS. In this paper, it is to describe application instances of electrical-field computation program that we used for the design of 800kV GIS. GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) is a miniature substation, which is consisted of all the substation apparatus (Circuit Breaker, Disconnecting Switch, Earthing Switch, Current Transformer, Potential Transformer, Bushing, Arrester, Bus etc.) except for the Transformer. It needs an optimum design being under consideration for the side of the minimization of size and the promotion of reliability. The GIS, SF_6 is the main insulation material, is consisted of complex insulation materials like Epoxy Resin insulator, Teflon insulator, Ceramic insulator, FRP Rod, Porcelain or Silicon Rubber Bushing, etc.. We need an identification in the insulation performance, which can be judged by the field test to promote the reliability and to minimize the size of GIS. But the design like this way is estimated to require much expenses and much efforts, so many analysis method using computer to confirm an ability of insulation are used now.
