Even for the area dominated with the single kind of crop, the growth condition,which might be comprised with the timing and the healthiness, would not be representedhomogeneously. In order to analyze the growth condition of crop, the data with temporally highresolution could be suitable, but its coarse spatial resolution would become crucial constraint forthe extraction of spatial pattern of variations. In this study, the author attempted to extract theinformation about the growth condition of winter wheat by using LANDSAT-TM/ETM+ andEO-1/Hyperion data. The study site was located in the northern part of Huang-Huai-Hai plain ofChina. Firstly, he examined the changes of indices of VSW and NDVI obtained from 8-dayinterval LANDSAT-TM and ETM+ data. Next, he examined the relation between the indices andthe spectral characteristics obtained from Hyperion data. As a result, S component of VSWshowed the increasing feature after flowering period of winter wheat more clearly compared withNDVI, and it could be used to estimate the relative timing of the growth from the single temporaldata. This phenomenon should be associated with the change of color of leaves from green toyellow, which was verified by the examination of relation between S component of VSW andyellowish factor obtained from Hyperion data. He also compared the growth conditions betweendata in different years and could characterize the spatial pattern that the area of early or lateharvesting tended to be fixed on the location.
