The hot deformation behavior of austenitic Fe-Mn-C TWIP steels was studied.The basic composition of the steels is Fe-22Mn-0.6C,and one of them is further alloyed with 0.19%V.The characterization of the hot deformation behavior of these steels was done by compression testing.Compression tests were subsequently carried out at 800°C,850°C,900°C,950°C,1000oC and strain rates ranging from 0.01s-1 to 10s-1.Flow resistance curves during hot deformation,activation energies for plastic deformation were obtained.Furthermore,metallographic observation by optical microscopy (OM)) was done to assess the evolution of microstructure for the different deformation conditions.The results show that the hot deformation activity energy of Fe-22Mn-0.6C and Fe-22Mn-0.6C-0.19V TWIP steel are 421.37 kJ/mol and 486.477 kJ/mol respectively.The onset of dynamic recrystallization is significantly retarded by V alloying.
