Study on the Approach of Conceptual Modeling Based on Ontology

The essential thought of ontology and semantic information model (SIM) are conceptualization of domain knowledge. Therefore, ontology is adopted in conceptual modeling (CM) of military affairs as medium of SIM. To build up a conceptual model of military affairs (CMMA) expressing semantic meaning, ontologies of military affairs are built up firstly, and then these ontologies are used to describe military system as the formatted language. When describing an object, XML and Schema work cooperatively to separate structure from content of object and then apply structure to restrict description of content. This makes it possible to realize CM thought based on ontology with XML/Schema technology. Specifically, ontologies of military affairs are built up in the form of Schema document, and then the document is instantiated to form specific scene of military action. The validity of this approach has been proved by CM of naval tactics finally.
