This paper presents a theoretical study to recognize the anti-twist characteristics of the conical bearing used in HDD spindle. The numerical solution of the Reynolds equation for the conical bearing has been done using finite element method. The load capacity, reactive moment of the conical bearing have been presented for various values of twist angle and conical angle. It is observed that the radial load capacity and reactive moment increase linearly with twist angle, while the axial load capacity and reactive moment first increase and then decrease with conical angle.
