Study of Influence of Primer Surfacer Properties on the Automotive Coating Appearance by DOE

In general evaluations of automotive coatings, appearance is more important than physical and chemical properties so its improvement is very necessary. Study of appearance by means of QMS-BP technique, which measures some of the most important coating appearance factors such as specular gloss, DOI and orange peel, could be useful. In this article the influence of variation in primer properties such as thickness, roughness and gloss on coating system appearance of final coating for two different primer type was studied , Results show that gloss increase will cause increase in NAP value while increase in thickness and roughness will decrease it.
