Encoding of English Texts Including Black-and-White Pictures

摘要

In a mixed-mode communication system,characters are transmitted by data-mode and graphics by facsimilemode and transmission time is greatly reduced comprared with the case of the conventional redundancy reduction system of facsimile.Text segmentation and character recognition are essential techniques to implement a mixed-mode communication system.The transmission efficiency is fruther improved by introducing the word-by-word transmission mode.The idea to encode information using recognition technique can be applied to the encoding of graphics,too.In this paper,all of these techniques are investigated and the computer simulation results for transsission of English documents are reported.
