AN EXPERT SYSTEM FOR EFFICIENT INTRODUCTION OF PLANTS TO FLORICULTURE INDUSTRY

Introducing a new crop to the flower industry is a long and costly process that requires the expertise of highly experienced professionals. Their opinions could be integrated into an expert system (ES) and thus made easily available to anybody who needs it, anytime. Several experts agreed to share their knowledge with us in order to develop a new ES. The system's boundaries have been defined as: geophytes for cut flowers and woody plants for potted plants. A prototype running on Crystal4 ES shell currently evaluates plants' response to day length and temperature and suggests whether to try to grow the new plant in Israel and in which region(s).
