摘要

Generally, earthquake resistant buildings are designed byconsidering the severe earthquake level at the building sitewhich means the buildings are expected to be excited by onelarge earthquake shaking only during its lifetime. However,usually an earthquake event is not only consisting of a mainshock but also a series of foreshock and aftershock. Even thoughthe main shock is smaller or equal to as the designed seismicforce, it does not mean that the buildings are guaranteed safesince the series of foreshock and aftershock occurred will alsocause extra damage to the buildings, especially in the situationwhich the foreshock and aftershock are considerably large.Whenever the accumulated damage exceeds the capacity limit ofthe building, collapse might occur. Therefore, in this study theresistance of building due to a series of strong ground motionwill be analyzed.
