Data centers use Ethernet for TCP/IP networks and FiberrnChannel for storage area networks (SANs). Data CenterrnEthernet (DCE) refers to enhancements of Data Center byrnbridging local area network (LAN) and Storage ArearnNetwork (SAN) connectivity over an Ethernet Network.rnWith DCE, Fiber Channel becomes another networkrnprotocol running on Ethernet, alongside traditionalrnInternet Protocol (IP) traffic. It introduces newrnrequirements for modeling and simulation of Fiberrnchannel over Ethernet (FCoE) and this paper presents arnmodeling and analysis of DCE. We develop a simulationrntools (DCESim) for designing, modeling, simulating andrnevaluating of DCE by using OMNeT++ , object-orientedrnmodular discrete event network simulator. The simulationrnresult has been validated with the actual I/O performancernof a network experiment with FCoE software stack. Wernuse the IO meter workload patterns to measure therncomputational effort of the simulator and illustrate thatrnthis measure is both adequate and accurate. We evaluaternthe relative performance with two different scenarios andrnexperimental measurements confirm these simulationrnresults.
