The Certification of the Aerial Delivery of Loads and Paratroopers

This paper explains how to demonstrate an adequate level of safety for the Aerial Delivery of Loads and Paratroopers.EASA CS25 Large Aeroplanes has been taken as the starting point for the development of an appropriate certificationbasis supported by Acceptable Means of Compliance and advice as to how to interpret the derived certificationrequirements. Particular attention has been given to addressing the interaction between aerial delivery equipment, theaeroplane and its systems. The criteria for establishing that the probability of risk of injury to paratroopers is acceptablylow has been provided. A wide and varied source of information has been drawn on (ranging from Military Standardsto Field Manuals). Recommendations have been made as regards developing DEF STAN 970 Design andAirworthiness Requirements for Service Aircraft to accommodate aerial delivery as an operational capability.
