Abstract: An earlier paper identified satellite control as one of ten space applications suitable for artificial intelligence techniques. Building on this research, we outlined an approach to reasoning that integrates diverse reasoning paradigms for problem solving and discussed how such an approach could reduce the human intervention required for satellite control. Since that time, we have developed a prototype for the reaction wheel assembly of the Hubble Space Telescope to test our theories. This paper discusses (1) the domain of satellite control in general and the reaction wheel assembly in particular, (2) the four reasoning methodologies selected for integration in a reasoning system, (3) the integrating architecture, (4) a description of a sample operation, and (5) our conclusions. !21
