A successful soil moisture algorithm using radiometerrndata must identify the accurate soil moisture even in thernpresence of rough surface and vegetation since bothrnroughness factor and vegetation affects the emissivityrnfrom a surface. For bare surfaces, several algorithms havernbeen developed to estimate the soil moisture usingrnradiometer. However, these models show a high error raternfor rough surfaces involving vegetation. In this paper, anrnempirical model has been developed that uses the leastrnsquare fit of a third order polynomial using real time data.rnThe new model, when compared with the two existingrnmodels, was accurate even in the presence of vegetationrnand rough surface.
