摘要

Compared to pressure die cast components made out of magnesium, magnesium alloys used in metal forming achieve up to 100% higher strengths against elongation at fracture, which can be up to 150% above those of cast components. Despite the relatively low utilisation of material and the low characteristic values for strength of parts produced by pressure die casting, almost 90% of the magnesium used for the production of component parts in the European Union is processed by pressure die casting. In addition to a low level of awareness about adapted process technologies for metal forming of magnesium, one central reason for this development is the fact that the processing industry does not have a cost-efficient supply of semi-finished products for extrusion, forging, and rolling.
