Activated carbon cloths is a recent form of porous material presentation that show very interesting properties in the field of environmental processes, and especially for the treatment of air loaded with Volatile Organic Compounds. The industrial implementation of these new adsorbent materials requires the design of new reactors. Consequently, the knowledge of the aerodynamic behaviour of these media is a very important issue in the design of such a device. The analysis of experimental pressure drops in activated carbon layers is presented in this paper. From these data, cylindrical pleated filters made from activated carbon cloths and polypropylene layers are sized and developed. Experimental pressure drops in these elements are measured as a function of the number of pleats. The effect of the overlapping of the pleats, due to the significant thickness of the medium, is shown to be very important.
