CAKE WASHING AND DRYING WITH STEAM IN THE FUNDABAC TUBULAR PRESSURE FILTER

Washing and drying of porous filter cakes are finishing steps that are applied after the actual filtration to maximize the separation of liquid and solids. The efficiency of the wash as well as the dryness of the cake attainable in pressure filtration is often limited by cake cracking, especially with compressible cakes of fine particles. Using steam as a washing and drying agent has shown to reduce cracking in comparison to traditional displacement techniques with non-condensable gases. This paper describes how in-situ, post-filtration steam washing and drying are executed in the Fundabac tubular pressure filter. Application cases and selection guidelines are included.
