Monolithic, Turn-Key, 1-kW Yb-Doped Fiber Master Oscillator Power Amplifier

Recent advances in high-power fiber optic components have enabled high-power fiber amplifiers at the multi-kilowatt level [1,2]. These amplifiers are attractive as building blocks for potentially much higher power coherently combined systems [3-9]. Large mode area fibers, bright pump sources, and monolithic signal/pump combiners are all critical technologies for these applications, all experiencing rapid development. Monolithic designs, with little or no free-space optical components, are important for the commercialization, cost-effectiveness, robustness, and deployment of multi-kilowatt systems. In this paper we discuss the design and performance of a 1 -kW-level, monolithic, turn-key fiber amplifier.
