Effects of Different Polymers on the Drug Release of Zolmitriptan from Sublingual Tablet Formulations

Sublingual tablet formulations of zolmitriptan were prepared by direct compression method with different hydrogels such as chitosan, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) and Sodium carboxy methyl cellulose (NaCMC). In vitro permeation studies were carried out with modified horizontal diffusion chambers. The best formulations and subcutaneous formulation were administrated to sheep. The relative bioavailability was evaluated against subcutaneous (sc) administration.
