We will address the new International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) requirements for cabin crew training and its ramifications for improving cabin safety. IBAC, the International Business Aviation Council, commissioned a three phase project to determine the feasibility of developing standards for business aircraft operations. The result of that project is the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations finalized in the fall of 2001. The primary purpose of IS-BAO is "to promote the harmonization of quality operating practices for business aircraft operations on the international level." It was designed to be companionable with a wide range of other internationally accepted standards such as the Quality System Requirements in JAR OPS, Section 4 of ISO:9002;1994 and ISO 9001:2000.rnIn this paper, we address the IS-BAO requirements for cabin attendants including such topics as: evaluating cabin safety hazards, risk assessment, internal cabin safety reporting systems, establishing an analysis program, standard operating procedures, training manual requirements and coordination with the flight crew. These standards are adaptable to a myriad of flight operations and will improve the safety culture of both new and established flight departments worldwide. Perhaps as important, the adoption of IS-BAO standards assures corporate clients that both their flight and cabin crews meet stringent international standards. This is all the more essential in light of ISO standards being adopted corporate wide.
