A pile load test program in northeastern Wyoming revealed inaccuracies in PDA and CAPWAP capacity predictions. While very accurate at one test site, the PDA and CAP-WAP predictions were substantially higher than static load test results at a second site. Re-analysis of the data indicated that the CAPWAP results could be made to approximately match that from the static load tests by increasing the damping in the model; however, the solutions were not unique because equally acceptable matches were found at much lower damping. The unusual dynamic behavior is thought to be related to a thick layer of hard fat clay penetrated by the piles.
