Welcome Address--Windpower 1997

Welcome to WINDPOWER '97 and Welcome to Texas, a state with a great future in wind energy. I'd first like to thank our cosponsors--DOE, NREL and Green Mountain Power--for their help in making this conference pssible. I'd like to acknowledge the very significnat role played by our Program Chairman, Dr. Andy Swift, and Emil Moroz, in doing somuch work related to development of the program for this conference. I'd also like to thank our local host committee-especially Michael Osborne, Judy Carroll and Russel Smith-for everything they've done to make us feel welcome here, and in particular to TREIA, one of our local partners, for making the Whirlwind Tour of Texas Wind Facilities possible. Thanks also to Tom Foreman and the Lower Colorado River Authority for sponsoring last night's opening reception. Linda Redmond, our conference coordinator, did her usual superb jb of managing the entire event, and has been delightful for all of us to work with. I hope yoe enjoy yourselvers here and especially urge you to take advantage of our Tuesday Night Out activities which the local host committee arranged.
