In this paper we study the problem of controlling a system over communication channelswhich tend to erase the data they are supposed to carry. We show that the largest probabilityof erasure tolerable by the closed loop is obtained from solving a robust control synthesisproblem. In more general terms, this paper establishes that the set of plants, which canbe stabilized over Erasure channels, is fundamentally limited by the channel generateduncertainty. This is in the spirit analogous to Shannon’s result which says that the channelcapacity is fundamentally limited by the channel generated uncertainty.
