According to the study of the bearing capacity of GFRP (glass fiber reinforced polymer) composite pile, the model test of the reinforced concrete (RC) pile and GFRP composite pile are carried out. The horizontal load characteristics of these two kinds of piles are studied by stepwise loading method. The elastic modulus, the horizontal displacement of pile top, and the bending moment of the two piles are gotten from the loading test. The test shows that under the surrounding of a layer GFRP fabric around the RC pile, the elastic modulus is increased by 17.26%, the horizontal displacement of the top pile under 2000N is reduced by 22.13% and the maximum bending moment of the pile is reduced by 14.8%. The testing results show that GFRP fabric can improve the mechanical properties of the RC pile effectively.
