AMMONIA REFRIGERATION INDUSTRY IN TURKEY

Ammonia as a working fluid in refrigeration systems is widely used in Turkey in cold stores, foodrnprocessing plants and other applications. The origin of the industry bases on foreign companiesrnestablished in Turkey. The pioneer technicians and engineers started to work in such foreignrncompanies and then on established their own businesses. Since then, like a chain reaction, numerousrncompanies are founded but only a few of them are survived. Today most of the companies arernTurkish. Compressors and process control equipments are being imported, evaporators, condensers,rncooling towers and heat exchangers are being built in Turkey and they are being assembledrnaccording to design parameters. In universities, education of proposed refrigeration engineers isrnfulfilled in Mechanical Engineering Departments' special sections of heat processing. Education ofrntechnicians in the field is being handled by Technical or Vocational High Schools or apprenticeshiprnin plant-training. In this study, current situation and structure of Turkish ammonia refrigerationrnindustry is described, constraints of industry are discussed, applications in various industries arernmentioned, renewal and improvement requirements of plants in Turkey are evaluated and steps inrninstallation of an ammonia refrigeration system are outlined respect to design measures, timernschedule, cash flow and etc.
